Unpopular Opinion: Keep Plans to Yourself Until You’re Certain…
It was a Tuesday afternoon, my car was packed to the brim, and I was filling up my gas tank in bumfuck Indiana. I was finally taking the solo cross-country road trip that I had dreamed of since I was 18.
What stopped me from doing it sooner?… To be honest, it was OTHERS’ opinions, doubts, fears, and unsureness… (Specifically my parents thinking it was dangerous to be a young female traveling alone on the road.)
I picked up a surprise call from my mom…
“Watchya up to?” She asked.
“Oh, ya know, just driving through Indiana,” I said, confidently.
“Whyyy are you driving through Indiana?” She giggled.
“I finally took the road trip I’ve always dreamed of,” I responded, surely.
“Wowwww. Ok this makes me really nervous. But I know I can’t stop you now. I know you’ve wanted this for a long time, so I’m happy for you.”
🙀🤯🤯🧐
For a moment, I was confused. I thought to myself, “Who is this woman on the phone and what have you done with my mother?!”
Then, I realized, “Wow. Because I am sure, SHE is sure, too.”
Soon enough I responded, “Thanks, mom. I’m a little nervous, and I don’t know what I’m in for, but I’m pretty excited.”
She of course then requested a few things to make her feel better: 1.) sharing my location, 2.) some mace, and 3.) a stun gun … All of which I agreed to.
It was the trip of a lifetime, and I’ve never looked back. I’m so glad I answered the call.
SO, what made this time different?…
Well… I DIDN’T TELL OR ASK A SOUL! (Not until the deed was already done). I didn’t seem out ANYONE’S PERMISSION! I just gave it to myself instead…
Moral of the story? My TOP recommendation for creating a boundary between YOUR PATH & others’ opinion:
‼️ Keep Plans to Yourself Until You’re CERTAIN! ‼️
THEN, share them with the world…
This way… YOU’RE already SURE.
This way… no matter WHAT someone says or thinks, YOU CAN’T BE SWAYED.
This way, you know your decision (whatever it is) is coming from YOU & YOU ONLY (& not being confused by OTHERS’ opinions, mindsets, doubts, fears, & limiting beliefs)
What do you think about this? What would you dare to dream or do if no one was there to tell you it was a “bad idea”?
